Jenny Hale hits ONE MILLION SALES

We are over the moon to announce that we have sold over ONE MILLION COPIES of Jenny Hale’s books since her debut women’s fiction novel Coming Home for Christmas was published in 2013.

We have had the honour of publishing seventeen Jenny Hale novels so far, translation rights have been sold in six languages and, as part of our partnership with Grand Central Publishing, several books have been published in the United States in trade paperback and mass market paperback. Her most recent Bookouture summer romance, The Beach House, reached a high of no. 3 in the US Kindle chart and no. 11 in the UK.

Jenny said,

‘When I began this writing journey with Coming Home for Christmas, I had no expectations for what would happen to the little book that took two years to find its publishing home. A massively wild rollercoaster ride of eight years in the industry, eighteen books published with two more coming soon, and countless lessons along the way, that book has brought me here. I’m humbled, overjoyed, and thankful to share in this announcement that took many more people than just me to make happen. It’s a testament to the early vision and incredibly hard work that I received on that first book and the ones after. I will be forever grateful.’

Associate Publisher Christina Demosthenous said,

‘It’s such a privilege to work with Jenny, who is incredibly hard-working and supremely talented. Every book of hers is such a treat – whether it’s a sweet summer romance or a festive love story, they never fail to leave me feeling warm and fuzzy. I always say that curling up with a Jenny Hale page-turner is the ultimate escapist experience! No one does romantic fiction like her, and she’s so deserving of this amazing success.’

Sad news to share…

We were greatly saddened to hear of the passing of our author Meghan Masterson on Saturday 20th November following her courageous battle with cancer.

Bookouture published Meghan’s stunning historical fiction novels The Paris Wife in August 2021 and The Queen’s Dressmaker in March 2021.

Meghan’s editor Rhianna Louise said,

‘Meghan was a brave, talented, creative, beautiful person. I have absolutely loved working with her and getting to know her, it has been such a joy and a privilege. There were many more things she wanted to write and to experience, memories to make and places to visit. She had such wonderful ideas! We were working on a new historical romance, and she threw herself into that project with so much passion and excitement even though she knew she might never be able to finish the book. I’m so terribly sad to think that I’ve had my last conversation with her, and along with everyone who has worked with her, I will really miss her. But I know how much it meant to her that two of her books are out in the world and that she has this incredible legacy to leave behind. Readers will always love and be moved by her gorgeous writing.’

Meghan will be hugely missed by all of us at Bookouture and our love, thoughts and condolences go out to her family and friends at this sad time.

Bookouture re-sign contracts with Liz Trenow, Ella Carey and Natalie Meg Evans

We are absolutely thrilled to have signed new contracts with historical fiction authors Liz Trenow, Ella Carey and Natalie Meg Evans.

Publishing Director Laura Deacon has acquired World English Rights to two sweeping WW2 historical novels from Liz Trenow from Caroline Hardman at Hardman and Swainson.

Laura said,

As soon as I started reading Liz’s stunning novel, I knew I was in the hands of an absolutely exceptional storyteller. At its heart, this is a story about the strength of a mother’s love: from saving her daughter from being taken to the camps to then an epic journey of survival across several borders to find her again after the camps are liberated. I was completely blown away by Liz’s storytelling: historically rich and packed full of emotion with characters you take to your heart. I cannot wait to get Liz’s new books into the hands of readers everywhere.

Liz said,

I am thrilled to bits to be joining Bookouture and looking forward to reaching new readers through their dynamic approach to the e-book market.  My first novel with them, due out in May 2022, is a very personal story told to me by an uncle who worked as an intelligence officer in Germany just after WW2, tracking down escaping Nazis and helping to manage the tide of desperate refugees – a topic with heart-breaking contemporary resonance.’

Laura also signed three new books from bestselling author Ella Carey from Giles Milburn at Madeleine Milburn Literary Agency. The first novel The Lost Sister will publish in July 2022.

Laura said,

Publishing Ella is an absolute dream come true and I’m so thrilled to be continuing The Daughters of New York series which has captured the hearts of readers everywhere. The Lost Sister tells the epic story of twins who are separated by war, one remaining in New York, the other taking on a dangerous mission in Europe. Combining Ella’s masterful storytelling with characters who leap off the page, this is a novel to savour.

Ella said,

I am incredibly appreciative of everything the team at Bookouture have done for my backlist books and for my new series, The Daughters of New York so far. From the editors to the marketing and publicity teams, Bookouture are the most supportive and dedicated publishers any writer could hope to work with, and I’m thrilled to be continuing on this exciting publishing journey with them. It is especially exciting for me to be working with Laura Deacon who has such a brilliant knowledge and understanding of digital publishing. Laura is an editor whom I have long admired. I can’t wait to get started!’

Associate Publisher Ellen Gleeson acquired World English Rights, plus audio, from Laura Longrigg of MBA Literary Agents for two WW2 historical fiction novels. The Girl with the Yellow Star, coming in October 2022, tells the story of a Jewish refugee arriving in the wilds of Cornwall and how she changes the life of the widow, Gwenna, she stays with. A second book exploring a forbidden romance in WW2 Suffolk will follow in 2023.

Ellen said,

‘Natalie’s fans adore her incredible talent for rich descriptions and worldbuilding, and how she places ordinary, relatable characters in impossible, heartbreaking situations. I know The Girl with the Yellow Star is going to be a rollercoaster ride of emotion. Natalie is an absolute pleasure to work with, I know her goal is to reach as many readers as possible, and I know both these beautiful books are going to completely sweep people away.’

Natalie said,

‘I am delighted to be continuing my writer’s journey with Bookouture, working with my editor Ellen Gleeson on a further two books. I want to thank my agent, Laura Longrigg of MBA, for negotiating behind the scenes. It is a privilege to create new stories and characters, to explore the wartime era from a fresh angle and become embroiled in the passions and struggles of ordinary people in extraordinary times. Having spent two years writing about the Second World War in Italy, I’m now returning in my imagination to Britain. Cornwall is the setting for The Girl with the Yellow Star, a story of persecution, dangerous love and compassion.’

Bookouture sign new contracts with Green, Matthews and O’Leary

We are completely delighted to have signed new contracts with authors Stacy Green, Imogen Matthews and Susanne O’Leary. We will be bringing you more heart-pounding thrillers, fascinating historical fiction, and gorgeous Irish romance novels from each respectively.

Commissioning Editor Jennifer Hunt has acquired world rights to two more books from USA Today bestselling thriller writer Stacy Green, following the success of the Nikki Hunt series, which has sold more than 100,000 copies in less than a year.

Jennifer said,

‘I’m so excited to continue to work with Stacy. This series gives crime readers everything they love: a protagonist with an incredibly emotional and complex past and crime after crime that only she seems able to solve. Stacy is a master of her craft.’

Stacy added,

‘Nikki Hunt is a thrill to write and working with Bookouture has been a wonderful experience. I’m so excited to continue telling her story!’

Jennifer has also acquired world rights to The Hidden Village and Hidden in the Shadows by Imogen Matthews, which were previously published by the author.

Set in Berkenhout, a real hidden village constructed in the woods in Holland to hide innocent people from the Nazis during World War Two, both books are inspired by incredible true stories.

Jennifer said,

‘These tales of courage and survival are absolutely unbelievable, and Imogen brings them to life with so much care. I remember finding these books on Amazon last year, they were the first of Imogen’s books that I read, and where I fell in love with her writing. I can’t wait for more readers to find these heartbreaking, but ultimately uplifting stories.’

Imogen added,

‘It’s a great joy to be working again with Jennifer and the Bookouture team on my two historical fiction novels. The Hidden Village has a special place in my heart as it was inspired by my Dutch heritage and fascination for forgotten World War Two stories set in Holland. I know that Jennifer and the team will weave their unique magic to rejuvenate both titles and I can’t wait to introduce them to a bigger international audience.’

Additionally, Jennifer has acquired world rights in three more gorgeous Irish romances from kindle bestseller Susanne O’Leary, who has sold over 300,000 copies of her books with Bookouture.

Jennifer said,

‘I couldn’t be prouder of what Susanne has achieved in the last year or more thrilled to get to continue to work with her. She knows exactly what her growing audience of devoted readers want: quirky characters, emotive stories and intriguing romantic mysteries. She has a unique ability to transport you to the windswept Irish coast within seconds, as all of her readers would attest.’

Susanne said,

‘The past three years with Bookouture have been the high point of my writing career, and I’m so looking forward to the work on the next three books. Everyone at Bookouture continue to be amazing to work with, especially my wonderful editor Jennifer Hunt. She has been so inspirational and supportive right through our collaboration, always there, helping me along to make my writing shine. I can’t wait to start the next adventure!’

We’d love for you to join us on Facebook and Twitter to celebrate.
