Bookouture sign Rebecca Griffiths

We are delighted to announce that Laura Deacon, Publishing Director at Bookouture, has signed a deal with Rebecca Griffiths for World English rights in two new historical crime novels. The deal was struck with Broo Doherty at DHH Literary Agency.

The first book The Girl at My Door, based on the infamous Rillington Place serial killer John Christie will publish in September 2021 with the second title, The Body on the Moor publishing in February 2022. Rebecca’s previous thrillers The Primrose Path and A Place to Lie were widely praised by reviewers and readers alike and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome her to Bookouture for this blend of fictional and true crime.

Laura said,

‘As soon as I started reading The Girl at My Door I was hooked. I have long been a fan of true crime and to find a novelist who was able to get into the mind and motivations of one of Britain’s most prolific serial killers whilst weaving an incredibly rich cast of fictional characters around him was completely thrilling. I called Rebecca and it was immediately clear how much research had gone into her writing and how much I wanted to work with her. This book will be a must-read for crime fans.’

Rebecca said,

It is a real privilege having my next two crime thrillers published by Bookouture. They are a dynamic and professional team — it’s great to be in such safe hands! I am especially pleased to have Laura as my editor, someone who really believes in what I do and shows such enthusiasm, great insight and expertise — and is surely the nicest person in publishing!’

Marnie Riches joins Bookouture with new procedural series

We are delighted to announce that Ruth Tross, Publishing Director at Bookouture, has signed a deal with Marnie Riches for World English rights in two new crime novels, and US rights in five backlist titles. The deal was struck with Caspian Dennis at Abner Stein. The backlist books will be published this summer and the first frontlist title in June 2022.

Marnie is the author of the bestselling George McKenzie series, two Manchester gangland thrillers, and two novels featuring private detective Beverley Saunders. The new series will introduce Detective Jackie Cooke, whose latest case bears disturbing similarities to the disappearance of her younger brother years before.

Ruth said,

‘Marnie is much admired for a reason – her books are the perfect blend of strong characters, dark crimes and page-turning revelations. I couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome her to Bookouture, both to introduce US readers to George McKenzie, and readers everywhere to Jackie Cooke. Tough, smart and determined, Jackie is the perfect detective for fans of Carol Wyer and Kendra Elliott.’

Marnie said,

‘I’m delighted to be joining the likes of Angela Marsons and Patricia Gibney on the Bookouture list. This dynamic imprint has launched some stellar careers, cornering a substantial chunk of the digital market in a relatively short space of time. I’ve long-admired Bookouture’s savvy marketing and its stable of best-selling commercial authors, whom I know readers absolutely adore, the world over. I think the superbly capable Ruth Tross and I are going to make a winning team, and I can’t wait for readers to meet Jackson Cooke. She’s my coolest heroine yet!’

Bookouture signs quirky cozy crime from Lisa Cutts

We are thrilled to announce that Publishing Director Ruth Tross has acquired World rights in a new cozy crime series by author (and real-life detective) Lisa Cutts, previously published by Myriad Books and Simon & Schuster. The first book in the Belinda Penshurst series will be published in August 2021.

Set in the fictional village of Little Challham, Murder in the Village introduces Belinda Penshurst, castle-dweller, dog lover and local fixture. Belinda will do anything to protect her home, so when dogs start going missing – and then the landlord is found upside down in a barrel of beer – she teams up with retired detective Harry Powell to crack the case.

Ruth Tross said,

‘From the minute I first started talking to Lisa about the Belinda Penshurst series I knew she was on to a winner. There’s a beautiful village filled with eccentric characters, a brilliant partnership between gung-ho Belinda and more cautious Harry (who Lisa Cutts fans might recognise from her previous books) and most importantly lots and lots of lovely dogs. The book combines a twisty mystery with plenty of humour and I can’t wait for people to read it.’

Lisa  said,

‘I’m so thrilled to work with the amazing team at Bookouture, a publisher I’ve long admired. My editor Ruth Tross is just wonderful and it really has been a privilege to work with her.’
