‘When Natalie sent over her ideas for the new contract I was immediately excited by their potential. These two novels will plunge readers into the heart of the Italian resistance and be packed with intrigue, action and romance, all against the backdrop of a stunning and escapist coastal setting. Natalie has such a powerful and compelling voice that’s perfect for the historical fiction genre, and with eBook readers hungrier than ever for World War Two stories, I’m confident that these novels will be a big success, and that we can grow Natalie’s already strong readership.’

‘A two-book contract from Bookouture is a joyous thing! Not only a vote of confidence in the novels I write, but an open invitation to spend months researching a new place and a different theatre of history. I’ve set previous books around World War Two, but the next two will carry me to Italy and into a harrowing and costly campaign which many consider to have been unfairly left out of the public consciousness. I immerse myself in the landscape of my books, and dormant memories of time spent on the gorgeous Amalfi coast are being awakened. My long-ago Italian O-level is being ratcheted back to life too! I’m delighted to have worked with Kathryn Taussig who has been my editor from the outset, first with Quercus, subsequently with Bookouture, and I now have the pleasure of working with Ellen. To be with Bookouture for the audio release of the next books is another exciting departure. I’m indebted to Laura Longrigg, my agent at MBA, for negotiating this next phase of my writing life.’

Commissioning Editor Cara Chimirri has acquired World English rights for a new historical novel from Sarah Mitchell, via Veronique Baxter at David Higham Associates. Cara said,

‘I am delighted to be taking Sarah’s publishing forward with Bookouture with another unforgettable wartime story. When I read Sarah’s first novel, The Lost Letters, I was absolutely captivated by the way she crafted such an emotionally resonant story of love, friendships and family secrets. The first book focuses on the twisted, shocking relationship between a marriage counsellor and her client, a wife, where neither woman is who she seems, and the second revolves around a wedding that goes horribly wrong.

Christina said of the deal,

‘I could not be more excited to be publishing more psychological thrillers by Ruth. Both of Ruth’s first books, The Mother’s Mistake and The Woman Upstairs, have been bestsellers, with readers loving her sleek, sharp, writing, her pacey, twisty plots and her utterly flawless characterisation. I’m so proud to be Ruth’s editor – roll on 2020!’

Ruth said,

‘I’m delighted to sign a second contract with Bookouture. I love working with Christina and the team and feel very lucky that I will continue to benefit from the editorial insight and ongoing support that Bookouture provide.’

Bookouture sign two book deal with Heidi Hostetter

We are over the moon to be sharing the news that we have signed a two book deal with bestselling self-published author Heidi Hostetter.

Publishing Director Kathryn Taussig has acquired World All Language rights, including audio, film and TV, for two beautiful novels in a new series by Heidi Hostetter, the bestselling author of The Inheritance and Things We Surrender.

The first book, The Shore House, will publish in August 2020 and is set at a family’s beach house on the beautiful Jersey Shore. This will be followed by The Jersey Girls, set in the same beachside community, in early 2021.

Kathryn Taussig said,

‘It’s an absolute dream to get to work with Heidi on these books. The Shore House and The Jersey Girls are everything I love in a good book: beautiful settings, family secrets and warm, intelligent writing. I know that Heidi’s many existing fans are going to love these new books, as well as the new readers we hope to introduce to her gorgeous writing. August publication really can’t come too soon!’

Heidi Hostetter added,

‘In our very first conversation, Kathryn talked about “partnering” and that was the moment I knew I’d found a home at Bookouture. I was so impressed that she’d read my books and knew exactly where I fit in the Women’s Fiction market. And after our conversation, every contact I’ve had with the Bookouture family shows them to be a group of really savvy professionals who know exactly what they’re doing and I’m stupidly excited to be a part of the family. That level of excitement for my work—and love for books in general—inspires me to write the very best story I can because I know it will be well cared for.’
