Bestselling author S.A. Dunphy joins Bookouture

We are delighted to announce that UK and Irish bestselling author Shane Dunphy (writing as S.A. Dunphy) is joining the Bookouture family. Shane has sold over 800,000 copies of his crime fiction and narrative non-fiction books across the world and is a true crime bestseller in audiobook.  He has also published influential academic titles and scholarly texts in the field of the social sciences.

Commissioning Editor Therese Keating acquired World English Language and audio rights from Ivan Mulcahy at MMB Creative for three books in a new series of crime thrillers set in Ireland, starring detective duo Jessie Boyle and Seamus Keneally. The first in the series will publish in September 2021.

Therese said,

‘Shane is a hugely exciting talent and I’m overjoyed to be publishing him. I was gripped from the moment I picked up the first Boyle and Keneally thriller. It’s a brilliantly paced and tense race against time with a terrifying villain, but just as compelling are the characters of his detectives and the eerie atmosphere of the remote Irish setting. It’s a truly winning combination and I can’t wait to share these books with readers.’

Shane said,

‘Bringing the Boyle and Keneally series to Bookouture is, quite simply, a no-brainer. The team at Bookouture understand every level of the industry and have amazing instincts for what readers want. Most importantly, though, Bookouture is somewhere writers are nurtured and developed. I know my characters and their world will thrive and flourish under the astute guidance of my editor Therese and her team.’

Associate publisher Lydia Vassar-Smith said,

‘K.L. Slater and Patricia Gibney are dynamic and astonishing writers. K.L. Slater’s books stand out in the crowded psychological market; each plot is so clever and memorable, and yet the reader really feels that it could happen to them. And in her Detective Lottie Parker series, Patricia Gibney has created an unforgettable series detective, who readers are devoted to, and who they follow from book to book.

I am so privileged to work with Kim and Patricia – commercial writers of the highest calibre – and to be signing new contracts with them, feels like the beginning of an exciting new chapter.’

Exciting news to share with you today folks!

We are delighted to announce that we have signed two new psychological suspense novels from Miranda Smith.

Publishing Director Ruth Tross did the deal for World all language rights for two more domestic thrillers direct with the author. Miranda has published three novels with Bookouture so far, including UK top 100 bestseller What I Know. Her fourth book will be out in March.

Ruth said,

‘It’s a complete pleasure working with Miranda, who goes from strength to strength, and I’m delighted to have books coming through 2022. Her novels always feature deliciously dark dilemmas and I’m so excited by her new ideas. I can’t wait to share them with readers worldwide.’

Miranda said,

‘I’m excited to continue working with Ruth and the rest of the Bookouture team. It has been an amazing partnership. I’ve so enjoyed bringing these stories to life and can’t wait to share more with readers in 2021 and 2022.’

We are thrilled to announce that Commissioning Editor Ellen Gleeson has acquired World rights, plus audio and Film and TV, for three more novels in the Detective Casey White crime thriller series directly from author B.R. Spangler.

Ellen says,

‘Seeing Brian’s fanbase build over the first three books in this fantastic series has been a true honour. Detective Casey White is a badass, independent, flawed and totally relatable character with a heartbreaking backstory, and hearing Brian’s updates as he crafts The Crying House, book four in the series, have me itching to get my hands on the next manuscript and share it with the world.’

Brian says,

‘I am over-the-moon delighted to have re-signed with Bookouture, and to publish new books in the Detective Casey White series. I can’t wait to share all the stories and characters. I am also thrilled to have the opportunity to continue working with Ellen, an amazing editor, as well as working with the wonderfully talented team at Bookouture.’

Bookouture signs debut author Lora Davies

We are thrilled to announce that debut author Lora Davies will be joining the Bookouture family. Commissioning editor Therese Keating acquired World English Language rights to two historical novels from Hannah Weatherill at Northbank Talent Management. Audio rights have been sold to WF Howes and dramatic rights are with Northbank Talent Management. Lora’s first book, the story of Mercy, a young Black woman in 1820s London whose life is upended first by a startling memory, and then by the knowledge that a terrible secret lies in her past, will publish in summer 2021, with her second novel to follow in early 2022.

Therese said,

‘It would be quicker to list the parts of Lora’s book I didn’t fall in love with. She writes so movingly and with such heart about identity and family, but also with great humour about friendship, and brings the city of London vividly and atmospherically to life. I was gripped all the way to the ending – which I sobbed through! I am so pleased and proud to welcome Lora to Bookouture – I know readers will love Mercy’s story just as much as I did.’

Lora said,

I am absolutely delighted to be beginning my publishing journey with the fabulous Bookouture team. Therese’s passion for my characters and story was evident immediately and I can’t wait for us to share them with the wider world.’
